Haiti has one of highest violence rate against women and rape has been used as a political weapon to threaten them. Rape was not even a crime until 2005. Before that, victims were paid money for rape — not everybody was given money though. In spite of the law in place, penalty for rape is still not severe when compared to United States or any other developed nation.
Let’s hope the penalty for such offences are made severe and women in Haiti stop living in fear of being raped.
